Privacy Policy

Overview

Chat404 is designed from the ground up to collect as little data as possible. We do not require an email address, phone number, or any personally identifying information to use the app.

Data We Process

• Account identifier: A randomly generated UUID is created when you register. It is the primary identifier associated with your account.
• Device identifier: On registration, we read your device's identifier via the Capacitor Device API and send it to our server, where it is immediately hashed with a secret salt. We store only the hash, and use it solely to prevent a single device from creating unlimited free trials.
• Message content: Messages you send are forwarded to our AI provider (Together AI) to generate a response and are not stored on our servers. Chat history is stored locally on your device only.
• Image attachments (Pro): When you attach an image to a message, the image is processed on your device before it is sent. We re-encode it as a JPEG and remove embedded metadata (including EXIF location, camera, and timestamp data) before transmission. The re-encoded image is then forwarded to our AI provider along with the message text to generate a response. Like text, images are not retained on our servers. The image is stored alongside the message in your local chat history on the device.
• Subscription data: If you subscribe to Chat404 Pro, payment is processed by your device's app store (Google Play or the Apple App Store), and subscription state is managed on our behalf by RevenueCat. We do not see or store your payment card details.

Third-Party Services

• Together AI processes your messages to generate responses. Our account is configured to opt out of data usage for model training. See Together AI's Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat manages subscription state. The RevenueCat SDK embedded in the app collects device and advertising identifiers for subscription attribution and fraud prevention, and sends them to RevenueCat's servers. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Google Play / Apple App Store handle purchase transactions under their own terms.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing purposes.

Data Retention

Message content is not retained after a response is delivered. Your UUID and device hash are retained for as long as your account exists.

Account and Data Deletion

You can delete your account at any time at chat404.net/delete-account. This permanently removes your UUID, subscription mapping, and refresh tokens. The salted device-identifier hash used for free-trial abuse prevention is retained separately and is not linked to your UUID after deletion. We plan to remove this mechanism once it is no longer needed to protect the service.
